Is iCarly Reboot Kid Friendly? Parents Guide (2024)

Wondering if the new iCarly reboot on Paramount+ is ok for kids? Fans of the original iCarly show on Nickelodeon will be thrilled that some of the original cast members are back. Since Carly is in her 20s in this show, I would rate the iCarly reboot as a TV-14 rating, because it is more adult, but nothing too racy. Here’s what parents need to in this iCarly reboot Parents Guide.

Is iCarly Reboot Kid Friendly?

iCarly is back with an original series on Paramount+, and this time Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) and her friends are all grown up, but still have plenty of hijinks. Back in the day, Carly was one of the first web streaming shows online. After going to college, she did find success, but found herself missing her platform and community.

Original stars Cosgrove (Carly Shay), Jerry Trainor (Spencer Shay), and Nathan Kress (Freddie Benson) reprise their roles. They do address the absence of Sam in the first episode, so you get a pretty quick summary of what they’ve been doing. And surprise – Spencer is rich!

In one of the episodes Carly says she’s 26, so parents, expect some language, some comments about sex, and some more mature themes.

Language

In the first 3 episodes, there have been a few bad words sprinkled in the episodes like a**, dammit, bit*h, and phrases like “screw you.”

Mature Content

In the first episode you see Spencer wearing nothing but an apron and don’t see anything, but perhaps a bit of a side butt cheek.

There are comments about people wanting to sleep with other characters and different relationships. A girl is seen coming out of Harper’s bedroom area and she tells Harper she likes her but gives her the ick.

Characters talk about divorce and being a stepparent.

Some characters drink alcohol.

Is iCarly Revival Appropriate for Kids Under 12?

The iCarly characters are older, but that doesn’t necessarily mean grown up. While some of their living situations are more “adult” (Carly has a roommate Harper, Freddie lives with his mom and has a stepdaughter, Millicent), iCarly also is still about a web show and silly things.

You still have Spencer and Freddie being very goofy, Carly still worried about likes and audience, and Harper and Millicent bring the sass and laughs. Yes, there are innuendos and some of them are completely unnecessary, but the core of the show is still there.

I would recommend the iCarly reboot for kids ages 14 and up, based on some of the conversations. And these are only the first 3 episodes. I don’t know if things will get a little more risqué in future episodes. For younger ones, I’d recommend the original iCarly series which you can also find on Paramount+.

If parents are comfortable with the content, then ages 10 and up would also be ok watching iCarly; I just think the content wouldn’t be as interesting. There are a ton of teenage shows that are way more inappropriate like Ginny and Georgia and Outer Banks.

For iCarly fans, this show is a welcome home. Things aren’t quite the same without Sam, but the new cast additions are great, and keep that same sarcastic, iCarly beat. The show is a lot of fun!

They’re mature, but immature, and I’ll take it. When baby Spencer makes a comeback, all is right in the world.
