How would you describe Path of Exile? ›

Path of Exile takes place in a dark fantasy world, where the government of the island nation of Oriath exiles people to the continent of Wraeclast, a ruined continent home to many ancient gods.

The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win".

Grinding Gear Games isn't too interested in Diablo 4's MMO-lite ideas, either. Having played the first few hours, I'm still a little shocked that brooding gothic action RPG Path Of Exile 2 (due out later this year) is set to be free. Or at least, every bit as free as its predecessor.

It's "hard" because if you just play without thinking too much, or without developing skills, you'll die. You'll get to a point in the progression and just have to stop. Normal isn't hard... pretty much any build with any player can beat it.

I have played this game since there was 1 act, and i can honestly say its only gotten better over the years. Looking forward to PoE2. Path of Exile is a great alternative for the lovers of classic 'hack & slash'. It's an entertaining title with an interesting gameplay and completely free.

You can absolutely play through the campaign free to play without having to spend any money whatsoever. If you end up liking the game and want to progress into end game or do challenge leagues, it does really benefit you to buy a few stash tabs. You can get pretty much everything you need for maybe $30 USD.

Anything like that? As pointed out, usually you only get banned from this game for really breaking the rules. Even being offensive in chat usually gets you a chat ban, not a ban from the game.

The ARPG genre has been considered a big niche in the gaming world in the past decade and for the right reasons. The scene was dominated by Path of Exile and Diablo 3 for so long, with a few sparks like Grim Dawn and D2R shining out here and there.

You farm for currency with which to either craft (if you are knowledge) or buy (if you are not) your gear upgrades. Basically find some league mechanics that you enjoy, spec into it on your atlas tree, then farm that stuff to sell to other players for currency. Use that currency to buy the gear you want.
