Honda CR-V (2017-2024) hitch installation steps

1. Prep the underbody

Lower the exhaust by removing by taking off the two exhaust hanger brackets found on each side of the vehicle. Use a pry bar to best remove each hanger bracket.

The 3rd rubber isolator will also need to be removed. Use ratchet straps to support the exhaust.

2. Feed fish wire into the frame

Fish carriage bolts through the access hole to the attachment points on the vehicle’s frame. Repeat on each side of the vehicle.

3. Raise hitch into position

Now that the underbody is prepped the hitch is ready to be put into place. Be sure to feed the fish wire through the hitch to prevent the bolt from being pushed back into the frame rail.

4. Install hardware

Install provided hardware through the tow hook. Take the carriage bolt through the hitch and tow hook, with the spacer. Then take the lock washer and attach it with the nut.

Place the canonical washer's teeth side up onto previously install carriage bolts.

5. Tighten and torque hitch

Tighten and torque all carriage bolts down according to the manufacturer's specification using the torque wrench and 17mm socket. Bolt located on tow hook will need the 19mm socket.

6. Re-install exhaust hangers

Finally, we will re-install the previously removed exhaust hangers to raise the exhaust back into its natural position.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Honda CR-V.
