It is expected that anyone with a disabled persons' or older persons' freedom pass who also requires a companion in order to travel will be able to apply for the new pass. It would be issued to the person who needs assistance so it could be used by different family members, friends or carers.

All wheelchair and mobility scooter users travel free on buses and trams. To find out if your scooter is suitable for travel, contact our travel mentoring service. Companions and carers will have to pay for their travel.

This photocard gives people aged 66 or over or who have a disability: free travel on bus, tram, Tube, DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail.

The Disabled Person's Freedom Pass gives free travel on most public transport in London at any time. Freedom Passes are funded by the council.

Carers travel free

If the person you care for has a National Entitlement Card and they need your help when they travel by bus then you will be able to travel with them for free.

The person you care for can apply for a disabled persons bus pass or they may qualify for an older person's bus pass. If they need someone to travel with them, they can apply for a companion bus pass which allows a companion to travel free.

The pass allows free travel on buses, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail services in London. Pass holders also get a discounted fare on River services and the Emirates Air Line. 60+ Oyster pass holders are not entitled to free travel on services outside of London.

The Freedom Pass allows you to travel on local bus services across England during off-peak times - 9.30am to 11pm Monday to Friday and all day at other times. The red rose symbol on your pass denotes that you have this right - known as the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).

When you launched your re-election campaign in January 2020, you vowed to introduce a “companion pass” that would allow a relative, friend or carer to travel free on the Tube, bus and Transport for London rail network when with a disabled person.
