Determining the price of a diamond or its value involves many of the factors we discuss on our diamond grading page. These include the 4 Cs (carat weight, cut, color, and clarity), and other factors are also taken into account such as polish, symmetry, fluorescence and shape. In the wholesale market, diamonds are priced per unit of weight, referred to as "per carat."

Updated Friday, March 1, 2024, diamond prices moved LOWER by an average of 0.4% in February 2024. The average price per carat of all diamonds in our database was $11,036.64, down from $11,081.29 a month ago.

The Diamond Prices Index is a representation of the current market pricing trend for diamonds. The DPI takes into account the average retail price per carat of loose diamonds from jewelers around the web. Prices are calculated for groups of weight ranges as well as by color and clarity.
