Yakuza 0 - Substory and Friendship Guide • PSNProfiles.com (2023)

The following substories become available after your first encounter with Mr. Shakedown when your objective is to head home.

Arakure Quest (#2)

Starting Point: Nakamichi Street

Prerequisites: None

Reward:Sunburst (Weapon)

As you make your way down Nakamichi Street, you should notice a group of people standing in a queue. Talk to the boy at the back and then enter the store. Once you leave, you'll see that the queue has now gone. Speak to the boy again who's not far from where you spoke to him the first time and you'll be tasked with getting his video game back. Follow the exclamation marks on the map to reach the conclusion. Just be prepared for some fighting.

Kamurocho Undercover (#4)

Starting Point: The Champion District
Prerequisites: None

Reward:9mm Automatic Pistol (Weapon)

Head to the Champion District and enter Shellac. Attempt to sit down on a stool and the reporter will start talking with you. Once the conversation is over, leave the bar and exit The Champion District. When you get far enough away, an exclamation mark (!) will appear over Shellac, so head back inside for another scene. It appears Kasuga has gotten himself into some trouble. Come to his rescue and you'll finish this substory.

Damned Yanki (#6)

Starting Point:Shichifuku Street West
Prerequisites:None

Reward:Wild Shirt (Armour), Krazy Kyo (Advisor)

Enter Shichifuku Street West from Theater Square and a strange man will bump into you, does his best to throw some insults at you, and then runs off. After that, make your way to Theater Square. A scene will occur, and then talk to the man again when he's hiding behind the pole. Accept his request and you'll have to give these wannabe yanki's some advice. For some answers that lead to the best possible outcome, look below.

  • "Hello," but in English.
  • Rescuing Puppies.
  • The time you crushed a gang.

After the scene ends, so too will this substory.

How to Train Your Dominatrix (#7)

Starting Point: Pink Street North
Prerequisites: You need to complete "The Show Must Go On" (Substory #9) first

Reward:Fur Belly Warmer (Accessory),Masochistic Man (Security Guard), Ayu Sakurai's Gandhara Video

Towards the south of Pink Street North, you'll see a dominatrix standing over a man. Approach them and speak to the woman. You'll be interrupted by some street punks, and after defeating them, accept Ayu's request to let her practice S&M with you. You'll have to give her some advice. Look below for some answers that lead to the best conclusion.

  • Who gave you permission to speak, pig!?
  • I want to be stepped on with heels.
  • I bet you'd like that, you pervert!
  • They're watching you get humiliated!

Then you get to watch her put the advice you gave her to work. The answers you gave her earlier will affect the outcome. When the scene ends, so do does this substory.

Password Protected (#8)

Starting Point: Kamuro Shopping Area
Prerequisites: None

Reward:Broken M1985 (Weapon),Li Leung (Security Guard)

Enter the Kamuro Shopping Area and head south along the main path. You'll see two guys standing there, and getting close to them will trigger a scene. Talk to the merchant and go after the guy who left and ask him to tell you the password. Head over to Taihei Boulevard and ask her about her "Plans for today" and "Tomorrow's weather". You'll have a fight before she gives you her answers. Afterwards, return to Li Leung and tell him what you heard. Those were "A movie date" and "Rain at noon." You'll receive the password for the merchant, so head on back to him and tell him the password (you have to type this in manually). The password is "Subotenuhigeukiro". Make sure to capitalise the S! This will complete the substory and you're now able to buy items from this merchant whenever you please.

The Show Must Go On (#9)

Starting Point: Nakamichi Alley
Prerequisites: None

Reward:Magnetic Necklace (Accessory)

Go to the intersection just south of the shrine and you'll be approached by two desperate members of a film crew who need your help. Accept their request, and after meeting with the director, you'll have to make some choices. Look below for some answers that lead to the best outcome.

  • Get Goofy.
  • Take the Food.
  • Tilt the Food at an Angle.
  • Remove the Dishes.

The choices you made will determine how successful the shoot goes. Then the real producer will show up with his crew and they challenge you to a fight. Defeating them will end this substory.

Miracle on Tenkaichi Street (#12)

Starting Point: Taihei Boulevard
Prerequisites: You need to complete "The Show Must Go On" (Substory #9) first

Reward: Silent Shoes (Accessory) or Baseball Shirt (Armour), Spining (Manager)

Head to the Dream Machine on the far left of Taihei Boulevard and you'll overhear a conversation between two men who are discussing how the pop star Miracle is coming to town. After that's over, reload the area by entering and exiting a building (or just go far enough away), then go to the entrance of Theater Avenue (just across the street from where the two men were) and you'll see Kato from substory #9. Talk to him and accept his request to help with the zombie shoot.

The next part of this substory can be rather annoying on the higher difficulties. You need to escort Miracle down the street as he's being attacked by zombies. Be careful about going too far ahead of him. While it's possible to trigger the zombies early, it's also very easy for them to slip past you. The Beast battle style works well here, but if you haven't unlocked that yet, ranged weapons are also very effective, so make sure you equip them if you have any.

When that's over, MJ asks you a simple question; black or white? The black box gives you a pair of Silent Shoes which reduces the range at which enemies can spot you. The white box contains a Baseball Shirt. I would recommend going with the Silent Shoes because they're a lot harder to obtain.

Underneath it All (#17)

Starting Point: Shichifuku Street
Prerequisites: None

Reward:Sachiko (Manager)

As you're walking down Shichifuku Street, you'll overhear a couple having an argument. Talk to the boyfriend who believes his girlfriend is selling her body and agree to go investigate. Head over to Senryo Avenue and speak to the girlfriend. You'll have to make some dialogue choices. Here's what I went with.

  • This is all new to me.
  • Bottom.
  • Can you admit you sell your underwear?

Mina will admit that she's been selling her used underwear, but she can't stop because of Sachiko. She describes what Sachiko looks like, so now you'll have to go over to the Hotel District and do your best to find her using the information you've been given. Sachiko is the girl with long black hair, wearing a blue scarf. When you speak to the right girl, you'll need to make some dialogue choices, but it doesn't matter what you say, so pick whatever you like. A man will start threatening Sachiko, so beat him up and then she agrees to shut down her burusera ring, ending this substory.

The Girl in the Video (#24)

Starting Point: Gandhara
Prerequisites: You need to watch three videos at Gandhara

Reward:Video Boy (Security Guard),Riona Minami's Gandhara Video

Watching three videos at Gandhara will unlock this substory (you can rewatch the same video). For information on how to acquire these videos, check Yakuza 0 - Substory and Friendship Guide • PSNProfiles.com (1)...I Did It for the Trophy. After your third time watching a video, enter Gandhara again for a scene. The guy here is obsessed with one of the girls in the video and he asks you to watch it with him. Accept his offer and he'll explain how he's in love with the girl in the video and he'd like you to find her for him.

Head over to Kanrai and you'll spot a familiar looking girl exiting the restaurant. Return to Gandhara (just outside) and tell the man where you saw her. Go back over to Kanrai and the two will meet up, but the encounter doesn't go very well. Some thugs will start harrasing the woman and Kiryu will step in to defend her. After defeating them, she'll fall in love with Kiryu instead, then this substory ends.

Don't Dance Alone (#28)

Starting Point: Maharaja Kamurocho
Prerequisites: You need to finish three songs at Maharaja Kamurocho

Reward:N/A

After finishing your third song at Maharaja Kamurocho (it doesn't matter if you pass or fail the songs), you'll be challenged to a dance battle. Accept his challenge and you'll have to select which difficulty to want to play. It doesn't matter which one you pick, so if you're not very confident, just pick easy. Even if you fail, you're given another chance. Beating him will end this substory.

Technique to Die For (#29)

Starting Point: Maharaja Kamurocho
Prerequisites: You need to complete "Don't Dance Alone" (Substory #28) first

Reward:N/A

Enter Maharaja Kamurocho and make your way to the bar to trigger an event. You'll be challenged to another dance battle, but this time it's against a more challenging opponent. It's the same deal as the last substory where you can pick whatever difficulty you like, and even if you lose, you can just try again. Defeating your opponent will end this substory.

Maharaja Showdown (#30)

Starting Point: Maharaja Kamurocho
Prerequisites: You need to complete "Technique to Die For" (Substory #29) first

Reward:Isobe Fan (Item)

Enter Maharaja Kamurocho and go speak to Maiko and Hisaaki near the dance floor. They tell you to go challenge Ogita, the best dancer in Kamurocho. He can be found in the VIP lounge. As is the case with the other dance-related substories, you can play on any difficulty and even if you lose, you're able to challenge him again. This will be your toughest opponent yet. Check out Yakuza 0 - Substory and Friendship Guide • PSNProfiles.com (2)Say You Wanna Dance for some tips if needed. Once you beat Ogita, you can either praise or insult him. Starting Point: Senryo Avenue North
Prerequisites: None

Reward:N/A

Simply hand something over to finish this substory; it doesn't matter what. Even if you hand something over that would be considered dangerous, Kiryu manages to talk his way out of it. You'll get the item back once this is over. The substory ends after the conversation and this unlocks Officer Kikuchi as a friend.

The Mushroom Merchant (#47)

Starting Point: Park Alley
Prerequisites: None

Reward:Enokitake (Recovery Item)

Make your way to the "L" shaped part of Park Alley and you'll find a guy in a red hoodie standing there. Talk to him and he'll offer Kiryu some mushrooms which he then declines. Then a hooligan will approach the merchant which is when it becomes clear that the mushrooms he's selling aren't of the illegal kind. The hooligan will attack you, and after defeating him, the substory ends. This also unlocks Kitajima as a friend.

Miho, Convenience Store Clerk (#51)

Starting Point: Poppo Tenkaichi St.
Prerequisites: None

Reward:N/A

Enter the Poppo Mart on Tenkaichi street and purchase something from the clerk. Afterwards, she'll introduce herself, and once the scene is over, you'll finish the substory and unlock Miho as a friend.
