WESTLEY. Down here in FRESNO, it sometime gets into the 20’s. The BIRDBATH, outside skims over with ice, but not clear to the bottom, it’s about 4” deep. A coffee cup sitting on the workbench would not freeze. Citrus Farmers don5 usually start to worry unless it remains that cold for 5 hours or more. I would not worry about it that much, just fix it ASAP.�
In reply to # 1613254 by Westley Of course it would happen when I am out of town for a week. I have been watching temperatures at home and they are dipping into the 20's late night and early morning. It is warming up into the 40s and 50s during the days. My question and concern is this. I have 2 cars at home that I know have only water in the cooling systems. 1 has a rebuilt engine in it and I have run it a few times, but I have yet to replace the water with coolant/antifreeze. The other is a car that I bought 6 weeks ago and I have not finished tinkering with it to get it road ready and it also has water only in it.
So the question is, should I be worried? I am kind of worried. The cold weather came on really fast. It was kind of surprising, to me at least, that the temperature swing would be that drastic that fast. How long and how cold does it need to be to mess up the engines. I can't imagine them freezing into a block of ice unless the temp is consistently below freezing, maybe in the 20s for a day or so. Luckily the temperature is only dipping that low for a few hours at a time. Am I wrong to not be SERIOUSLY concerned?
Does anyone have any insight?
