Guzman Y Gomez: New Mexican Restaurant Coming to Aura, Sunshine Coast (2025)

Get ready, Sunshine Coast! A new Guzman Y Gomez (GYG) restaurant is on its way, signaling the continued expansion of this popular Mexican fast-food chain. Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks, with an anticipated opening in mid-2026 in the rapidly developing Aura community. This new spot, boasting a 200 square meter space and a drive-thru, will be located on Aura Boulevard, right across from McDonald’s in Baringa.

GYG's Chief Development Officer, George Mandilis, highlighted the prime location, emphasizing its excellent accessibility and visibility. He also pointed out that it will offer the community a fresh and exciting choice for fast food.

But what makes GYG stand out? The company prides itself on serving 100% clean, authentic, and fresh Mexican food, made to order, without preservatives, artificial flavors, colors, or unacceptable additives. Their menu is packed with fresh Mexican favorites like burritos, tacos, bowls, and nachos.

This new venture is expected to create approximately 85 jobs, which is great news for the local economy.

The buzz on social media is already building, with locals expressing their excitement. Tanisha Kennedy exclaimed, "Can’t wait for this!" and Ronnie Y Young added, "GYG is going to crush it."

However, not everyone is thrilled. Some residents have voiced concerns about potential traffic congestion in the area, while others have expressed a desire for different fast-food options. This highlights a common tension between development and community needs.

This new restaurant adds to GYG's existing presence on the Sunshine Coast, with locations already in Birtinya, Caloundra, Buddina, and Maroochydore. A restaurant is also planned for Glass House Mountains, with staff being hired for a mid-January opening. Furthermore, GYG has identified a location in Sippy Downs for a new restaurant, potentially opening in 2028.

Mr. Mandilis hinted at further expansion plans, stating that they are actively seeking more opportunities in the Queensland area.

For those unfamiliar, Guzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by childhood friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan, originally from New York. Today, the chain boasts over 250 restaurants across Australia, Singapore, Japan, and the United States, with a global goal of opening more than 30 restaurants annually.
