The Luhn Algorithm, also known as the "modulus 10" or "mod 10" algorithm, is a simple checksum formula used to validate a variety of identification numbers. It was created by IBM scientist Hans Peter Luhn.

The Luhn algorithm is used in credit card numbers, IMEI numbers, National Provider Identifier numbers, Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs), and many other identification numbers.

The algorithm is simple. It starts with a number, multiplies each digit by its position in the number, and adds up the results. If the total is divisible by 10 (with no remainder), then the number is valid.
