Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to launch my own kayak or paddleboard?

Yes, to launch your own kayak or paddleboard you are required to have a city permit to be on the water. We sell the $9 daily permit here in our office. If you would like to launch from our beach, we charge a $10 launch fee. If you’d prefer to skip the launch fee, feel free to launch from the public beach on Bayshore drive in the back of the lagoon. How do we set up a private party?

We can definitely throw a package together for you! Email josh@carlsbadlagoon.com for any large group/party inquiries. Because of our wide variety of rental options, we are able to put together packages to fit your needs and budget. Please provide us with the following details, and we will be happy to help: How many people? How long would you like your equipment? What is your budget? We look forward to helping you plan your event!

Can I launch my own powerboat?

Yes, but it must meet the specific lagoon requirements. Email josh@carlsbadlagoon.com or click here for the complete list of requirements and process to launch your vessel.

Can I store my boat at the lagoon?

We offer both covered and uncovered boat storage. Contact josh@carlsbadlagoon.comfor pricing and availability.

Are dogs allowed at the lagoon?

Dogs are allowed to ride on non-motorized equipment (paddleboards, kayaks, etc), but not on boats. However, dogs are not permitted on our beach area. They must be walked from the car straight onto your equipment.

Do you sell equipment?

Yes! We sell our used paddleboards and kayaks at the end of each season. We currently have 12’ Liquid Shredder paddleboards and both single and tandem Perception kayaks for sale. Email josh@carlsbadlagoon.com or give our office a call for more information. Feel free to stop by any day to check out our used inventory.

Are life vests required?

Children 12 and under are required to wear a life vest on all equipment rentals. All customers are required to wear a life vest on the mini boat rental. We provide vests of all sizes for every customer if needed.

What is the size of the lagoon?

The lagoon is 1.7 miles long from North to South, and .5 miles wide. It is about 8-10 feet deep. The water temperature is usually a few degrees warmer than the ocean, and consists of mostly salt water.
