On New Year’s Day, the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special finally started streaming on HBO Max. The cast shared so many heartwarming, nostalgia-ridden stories, and fans absolutely lost it after Emma Watson revealed when and how she “fell in love” with co-star Tom Felton on the Harry Potter set.
“I walked into the room where we were having tutoring,” she said. “The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard.”
“And I just don’t know how to say it — I just fell in love with him,” Emma continued. “I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet — it was number seven — and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day.”
This isn’t the first time Emma has spoken about her childhood crush on Tom.
"For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton. He was my first crush," she told Seventeen in 2011. "He totally knows. We talked about it — we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that's cool."
Tom also addressed the matter during the reunion special, expressing how he adores Emma and feels a strong attachment towards her.
“Emma and I have always loved each other, really… I think I was in the hair and makeup chair and someone said something along the lines of, ‘Yeah, she had a crush on you,’” he said. “I was — I became very protective over her. Yeah I’ve always had a soft spot for her, and that continues to the day.”
“There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship,” Tom added.
Romance rumors frequently popped up about the two in the past, but they’ve always denied being anything more than friends.
“Nothing has ever, ever, ever happened romantically with us. We just love each other. That's all I can say about that,” Emma concluded.
