Eligibility FAQ's (2024)

    • What are PDSA Veterinary Services?

PDSA is the UK’s largest veterinary charity covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland:

      • 48 PDSA Pet Hospitals and PDSA Pet Clinics – staffed and manned by PDSA.

Please check to see which PDSA service is available for you and your pet in your area using our Eligibility Checker.

    • What type of treatments do we carry out at our Pet Hospitals?

At PDSA our Pet Hospitals provide a wide range of vet treatments and services, helping hundreds of thousands of pets every year.

We offer everything from major surgery to fix broken bones or treat serious illness, to more routine services such as vaccinations and flea treatments, which help keep our pets healthy and happy. Our vet teams are all fully trained and qualified, and we are extremely proud of the high quality care delivered every day, throughout the UK.

As a charity, we must make the best possible use of our limited funds and reach as many pet owners as possible. So it is simply not possible to offer every procedure that may be available in some more specialist private practices and hospitals. Where such treatment is needed, we would talk to the owner about referring their pet for treatment elsewhere.

    • How does PDSA fund its veterinary services?

PDSA does not receive any money from the Government or any National Lottery funding. We are entirely funded by public support. To help us continue what we do, we ask all pet owners to make a contribution of whatever they can afford towards their pet’s treatment. We are grateful for all the donations and contributions that we receive.

    • How do you qualify for PDSA Treatment?

We would love to treat all sick and injured pets, but unfortunately our limited funds mean that we have to set eligibility criteria for our free and reduced cost veterinary services to ensure we help owners most in need. Visit ourEligibility page for further information.

    • How long will my registration last?

If you are eligible to register for PDSA services, your registration will last 12 months. You can apply to re-register with PDSA when your registration is coming to an end.

    • Do I need to make an appointment for my pet at PDSA Veterinary Service?

If you require any further information please contact one of our team on Freephone 0800 731 2502 (Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm).

    • Can I pay for PDSA Veterinary Services if I'm not eligible?

PDSA provides free and reduced cost veterinary services to the pets of people in need. To access these services pet owners need to meet our eligible criteria which can be found here.

Unfortunately, we do not have capacity to treat pets whose owners are not eligible for our services. If this is the case we recommend you register with a local private veterinary practice

    • Are there any restrictions to PDSA Veterinary Services?

Yes. Eligible owners can register one pet for our free veterinary services, any additional pets can be registered for our reduced cost service. There is no limit to the number of pets eligible owners can register for our reduced cost service.

PDSA does not feel that charitable funds should be used to support breeding so certain restrictions may apply.
