Netflix, like most streaming services, often needs to part ways with some content to make room for new titles. This coming May, Netflix will be saying goodbye to three well-regarded anime titles, and fans will definitely be gutted to see them go.

May 2022 will see anime titles Weekly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, and Parasyte: The Maxim leave the platform. As of May 15, the aforementioned titles will no longer be available for viewing on Netflix outside of Japan.

Weekly Girls' Nozaki-kun is a slice-of-life comedy about 16-year-old Chiyo Sakura and her crush on the mysterious Umetaro Nozaki, a boy in her class who is secretly a mangaka. When Chiyo tries to confess her feelings for Nozaki, he misunderstands the interaction as Chiyo asking him for an autograph, assuming that she has uncovered his secret career. When Chiyo tries again to rephrase her confession, Nozaki misunderstands again and the two end up at his house working on a manga manuscript he needs to submit. There she finds out that Nozaki is actually a renowned shojo mangaka working under a pen name, so Chiyo agrees to be his assistant mangaka in order to get closer to her crush. The series became available on Netflix USA and 10 other countries in September 2020, and it will be making its departure on May 1st.

Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas is one of the various iterations in the legendary Saint Seiya franchise, and it has been on Netflix USA since August 2020, but other countries have had it much longer. It is set in the 18th century, 250 years before the events of the flagship series, Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. This prequel follows the events of the Holy War, in which childhood friends Tenma and Alone fight on opposing sides. Tenma is one of the 88 saints of the Goddess Athena, while Alone is the reincarnation of Hades himself. Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas is set to be removed from Netflix USA on May 15.

The last anime to be removed from Netflix's catalogue in May is Parasyte: The Maxim, a 2014 psychological horror about parasitic body-stealing aliens that descend upon the Earth and cause widespread carnage and death. The protagonist, Shinichi Izumi, narrowly escapes having his brain overtaken by one such alien by confining it to his right arm, but when he wakes up the next morning, he is shocked to realize that his right hand now has eyes, a mouth, consciousness and the ability to take on various forms. This opens up Shinichi's world to the unforgiving game of survival played by the parasites as he and his right hand "Migi" work together to prolong their own survival. The series was introduced to Netflix USA in September 2020 and will depart on May 15.

With various plans to introduce new titles and Netflix Originals to the platform, it only makes sense that some titles will be removed after serving their purpose. Be that as it may, it is an exciting time for anime streaming as Netflix continues to move forward with various new projects.
